Black males experience double oppression in school, based on their gender and their race. Plato once declared boys to be like wild animals and the most difficult to manage; his assertion is present in the mindset of American society.
Black Girls and Their Possible Selves
This past year I spent at least 100 hours writing my dissertation. In it I focused on a theory titled “Possible Selves” and its impact on Black boys. Essentially, the theory proposes that how one sees themselves in the future impacts their current motivation and actions.
Mental Health and the Black Community
I remember as a teenager watching the Washington DC sniper on television and hearing people bet on the race of the shooter. It was almost unanimous that this was not a Black person. When the identity was revealed, everyone was shocked, a Black man and his son, had killed innocent people for no apparent reason.
